The philosophy behind Toyo Tires’ involvement in motorsports is simple and direct; whether on the track or off the road, we race to win. Through this pursuit of perfection, Toyo Tires has forged a reputation for winning, performance and consistency.
We began competing on U.S. soil in the 1980’s and by 1989, we had posted three consecutive driver and manufacturer’s titles in the IMSA GTU class of road racing. Toyo Tires soon became a household name amongst both amateur and professional road racers…winning tends to have that effect. We have been The Official Tire of SCCA World Challenge® since 2001, the Toyo Proxes R888 currently holding this prestigious title. It is our flagship competition tire and it delivers race-winning performance to drivers across racing.
The Proxes R888 isn’t our only tire topping the podium. The Toyo Proxes R1R extreme performance tire is quickly making a name for itself in the winner’s circle. In July, Rhys Millen took the win and set a new world record in the Time Attack 2WD division during the 87th running of the historic Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. In autocross, championships include the SCCA® Solo National Championships Street Touring classes in 2008 and 2009 and the 2009 SCCA ProSolo® Finale. It also won consecutive Formula DRIFT® championships in 2007 and 2008 and has captured event after event in Time Attack.
Proxes Drag Slicks have also won numerous NHRA® Sportsman titles, while scoring wins and records in Sport Compact competition. And now, our first drag radial in the United States, the Proxes TQ, is poised to dominate the competition.
Off-road, our Open Country M/T has become synonymous with winning. The competition model of the tire has captured too many victories to list on this page, including the 2009 SCORE Overall Points Championship, 2009 TORC Pro 4x4 Truck Championship, 2006 SCORE Baja 1000 Championship, Best in the Desert’s Class 8000 Championship (twice), rock racing and more. In 2009, Robby Gordon started the year with an impressive third place finish in the 2009 Dakar®, with Open Country M/T-R tires supporting him and his 2WD Hummer H3 all the way. He finished the year as SCORE Overall Points Champion and Trophy-truck Champion; both were firsts for Toyo Tires.
Even right off the shelf, the street legal Open Country M/T tires are impressive. In 2008, they helped Chuck Dempsey take the win in Class 1 at the SCORE Baja 1000, not the first and certainly not the last win.
It’s no secret…when it comes to motorsports we at Toyo Tires relish the excitement of winning!
